Jay Cutler was the one who was most talked about this season for Chicago, especially in the playoffs. But one guy who is slightly overlooked is Matt Forte. Forte had slightly less touchdowns and yards than his first of three years in the league, but he greatly improved with carrying the ball. He averaged 4.5 yards per carry, up from his first two years in the league. When Bears fans buy tickets to see their team, they should want him to get the ball more.

I know its super early, and I’m a huge Bears homer, but here is my first 2011 NFL Mock Draft. Also check out the new 2011 NFL Mock Draft Database

1. Buffalo Bills: Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford

Bills have the worst quarterback situation in the league including Arizona. Their offensive line, receivers and defense all need upgrades. But at least the have three starting running backs…

2. Cleveland Browns: A.J. Green, WR, Georgia

His suspension will have no bearing on his draft status this kid can play.

3. St. Louis Rams: Robert Quinn, DE, North Carolina

Another year, another high draft pick lineman. You’d think they’d be better…

4. Detroit Lions: Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU

Good defensive front. Good young quarterback and offensive weapons. Terrible secondary. The Lions are definitely on the uptick though.

5. Carolina Panthers: Marcell Dareus, DE/DT, Alabama

John Fox is gone after this season. A new coach will have a new defensive anchor. By the way, thanks for letting us take Chris Harris back.

6. Seattle Seahawks: Jake Locker, QB, Washington

Hometown hero. Hasselbeck is done and Charlie Whitehurst is not the savior (even though he looks like him).

7. Jacksonville Jaguars: Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska

Mathis will be too expensive to keep.

8. Arizona Cardinals: Von Miller, DE/OLB, Texas A&M

Probably wished Locker was still around. What’s their starting quarterback’s name again..? Matt Hall?

9. New England Patriots: Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama

Oh those Raiders… Good luck for the Pats. Maroney turned out to be a bust. With Moss all but gone, look for the Pats to maybe run the ball more next season.

10. Kansas City Chiefs: Jonathan Baldwin, WR, Pittsburgh

If Cassel is still around he could use another weapon…

11. Denver Broncos: Allen Bailey, DE/DT, Miami

A definite upgrade to their defensive line.

12. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Adrian Clayborn, DE, Iowa

With the Bucs quietly becoming the Bengals south by acquiring players with character concerns, Clayborn seems like a good fit. This pick would signal the making of a young and potentially dominant front four in Tampa

13. Philadelphia Eagles: Aaron Williams, CB, Texas

Vick, Vick, Vick. That’s all everyone wants to talk about with the Eagles. However, they could use a corner.

14. Green Bay Packers: Shane Vereen, RB, California

They need a running back to complement all the other talent on offense.

15. Minnesota Vikings: Travis Lewis, OLB, Oklahoma

Quarterback is also a concern with Grandpa finally going into a home…

16. New York Giants: Anthony Castonzo, OT, Boston College

Good positional value for Reese.

17. Tennessee Titans: Bruce Carter, OLB, North Carolina

Need help defensively. Carter can ball.

18. Cincinnati Bengals: Ryan Mallett, QB, Arkansas

Palmer has stunk for the Bengals.

19. New York Jets: Julio Jones, WR, Alabama

Edwards will be gone. Holmes might be. This passing attack has room to improve.

20. Miami Dolphins: Ryan Williams, RB, Virginia Tech

Brown’s injury prone. Williams is old. Miami wants to run the ball. Good pick.

21. San Francisco 49ers: Brandon Harris, CB, Miami

Clements is 32 and overpaid. Good pick here also.

22. Atlanta Falcons: Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame

Could take this offense from good to great.

23. San Diego Chargers: Joseph Barksdale, OT, LSU

McNeil probably won’t be resigned. Look for the Chargers to go OT.

24. New England Patriots: Cameron Heyward, DE/DT, Ohio State

Could also use an OLB, but Heyward can also rush the passer from inside.

25. Dallas Cowboys: DeAndre McDaniel, S, Clemson

A good cover safety.

26. Washington Redskins: Cameron Jordan, DE/DT, California

My bet is Haynesworth(less) will be cut at the end of the season.

27. Baltimore Ravens: Janoris Jenkins, CB, Florida

A lot of free agents and injury concerns for the Ravens at this position…

28. Indianapolis Colts: Mike Pouncey, G, Florida

This offensive is bad. Its been bad. You just realize because Peyton knows how to read defenses and get the ball to his hot receivers. Its not a coincidence they ranked last in rushing yards…

29. Pittsburgh Steelers: Ras-I Dowling, CB, Virginia

Good value pick. Could also look at OL or WR.

30. New Orleans Saints: Ryan Kerrigan, DE, Purdue

As we all know Alex Brown is a beast, but they are still looking to upgrade the pass rush.

31. Houston Texans: Greg Romeus, DE, Pittsburgh

Great complement to Mario Williams on the other side.

32. Chicago Bears: Jurrell Casey, DT, USC

Tommie Harris isn’t Tommie Harris anymore. Peppers is the only player on that line doing anything. But after a super bowl win things could be worse…

Cutler finished the season with only one more touchdown then interceptions with 27 touchdowns and 26 interceptions. Cutler's interception rate goes up every season, if it goes up anymore, Cutler will probably be in the 30's. It is very hard to have a winning season when your quarterback throws 30+ interceptions.

The Chicago Bears are in a situation where they want to win now. After adding Julius Peppers, the Bears showed that they are dedicated to winning. But they are in a questionable state right now due to Jay Cutler. The Bears gave up a lot to acquire Cutler’s services.

Last year, Cutler threw for 27 touchdowns, which seems good. But when you add his 26 interceptions, that is not good. He has always been a quarterback to rack up both of those statistics. But this year, he needs to be efficient. If not, the Bears could be watching the playoffs on television again.

Wherever Chest Taylor goes, pro-bowl success follows. However, it is usually for the player that is starting ahead of him, as opposed to Taylor himself. Taylor has been a running back staple for eight years. And in those eight years, he backed up Jamal Lewis, who rushed for 2000 yards one year, and Adrian Peterson, who is arguably the league’s best running back. In Chicago, Matt Forte is hoping for a big season after rushing for just 929 yards in the 2009 campaign.

After his 1000-yard plus season in his rookie year, Bears fans were hoping that Forte would become one of the NFL’s elite running backs. But after a shaky sophomore season, the hope seems to be diminishing. But after acquiring Chester Taylor, there is some more hope. Although it may just be a coincidence, Taylor does seem to help the success of others. And the Bears would like nothing more than for that trend to continue.

The Chicago Bears announced Wednesday that safety Danieal Manning signed his restricted free-agent tender of $1.176 million. "He's just glad it's done," Manning's agent Russel Hicks told ESPNChicago.com. "This was never a big distraction because Danieal chose to go in awhile ago and be part of the team. All he wants to do now is move forward and be part of a Super Bowl contender. That's all he's worried about."

A former second-round pick, Manning has started 40 of 61 games for the Bears at free safety, cornerback, nickel, and strong safety. Manning skipped the start of offseason voluntary workouts, but rejoined the team just prior to the draft.

DE Julius Pepper's agent allegedly met with the Bears at the NFL Scouting Combine and could bring tampering changers against the [...]

ChicagoBreakingSports reported that the Bears met with DE Julius Peppers’ agent this past weekend at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. If these rumors are true, the Bears could be facing “tampering” charges from other teams, according to Michael Lombardi of National Football Post

Lombardi points out teams usually avoid tampering charges because agents usually have more than one client and they can claim they were meeting to discuss another player. Unfortunately for the Bears Carl Carey, Peppers’ agent, only has one client: Julius Peppers.

ESPNChicago contacted an NFL spokesperson, who refused to comment.

ESPNChicago states the current CBA defines tampering as:

The term tampering, as used within the National Football League, refers to any interference by a member club with the employer-employee relationship of another club or any attempt by a club to impermissibly induce a person to seek employment with the club or within the NFL.

If tampering charges (.pdf) are brought against the Bears, the commissioner would gather the facts then make a ruling of tampering had actually occurred or not. If the tampering was found to be intentional, then the NFL could impose a fine on the Bears and the team bringing the charges against the Bears could be awarded (.pdf, page 41) 50% of the fine collected by the NFL.
