Daaa Bears

The Bears picked up Jay Cutler from the Broncos last season in hopes that he would lead them to the top of the NFC North. Instead, Cutler underperformed throughout the season, throwing 26 interceptions. A team just cannot win when the quarterback throws that many picks during the course of the year.

Another player who didn’t live up to expectations after a surprising rookie year was running back Matt Forte. After rushing for over 1,200 yards his rookie season, he couldn’t reach 1,000 this past year. Star linebacker Brian Urlacher has had problems staying healthy as well.

All in all, the Bears are in for yet another mediocre season. I say they go 7-9 again in a top heavy division that features the Vikings and Packers.

Bears Will Not Improve This Season

The NFC North is all about Brett Favre. If Favre plays this season for the Vikings, It will be a tough race between the Vikings and Packers. Do the Bears and Lions have a better team then last season? Maybe they will compete for a wild card spot… read on to find out.

3. Chicago Bears: Last year the Bears thought they had a playoff team with the acquisition of Jay Cutler. They were sorely disappointed when Cutler struggled all season long throwing interception after interception. Cutler finished the season with only one more touchdown then interceptions with 27 touchdowns and 26 interceptions. Cutler’s interception rate goes up every season, if it goes up anymore, Cutler will probably be in the 30’s. It is very hard to have a winning season when your quarterback throws 30+ interceptions. I think the Bears should focus on running the ball more this season because they have a great running back in Matt Forte. Cutler wasn’t the only one to blame for the Bears misfortunes last season. The Bears do not have great receivers, Devin Hester has speed, but he can’t catch. Earl Bennett has a promising future and may even be the top receiver on the team this season. The Bears tight end, Greg Olsen is one of the best in the league, he should be Cutlers main target unless he is double covered, which will probably happen a lot. The Bears defense is solid like usual led by Brian Urlacher. The Bears shouldn’t have any trouble stopping their opponents from scoring unless Cutler keeps giving up the ball. Basically this team all depends on Cutler, if Cutler stops throwing interceptions, they will be a playoff team, but I don’t see that happening. I think the Bears will have the same record as last season at 7-9.

Less Interceptions

The Chicago Bears are in a situation where they want to win now. After adding Julius Peppers, the Bears showed that they are dedicated to winning. But they are in a questionable state right now due to Jay Cutler. The Bears gave up a lot to acquire Cutler’s services.

Last year, Cutler threw for 27 touchdowns, which seems good. But when you add his 26 interceptions, that is not good. He has always been a quarterback to rack up both of those statistics. But this year, he needs to be efficient. If not, the Bears could be watching the playoffs on television again.

Restricted FA Manning signs tender

The Chicago Bears announced Wednesday that safety Danieal Manning signed his restricted free-agent tender of $1.176 million.

“He’s just glad it’s done,” Manning’s agent Russel Hicks told ESPNChicago.com. “This was never a big distraction because Danieal chose to go in awhile ago and be part of the team. All he wants to do now is move forward and be part of a Super Bowl contender. That’s all he’s worried about.”

A former second-round pick, Manning has started 40 of 61 games for the Bears at free safety, cornerback, nickel, and strong safety. Manning skipped the start of offseason voluntary workouts, but rejoined the team just prior to the draft.

A four-year veteran, Manning has posted 286 tackles, six interceptions, six forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries, in addition to 14 pass breakups and two sacks.

Bears' Wolfe out with kidney injury

A lacerated kidney will force Chicago Bears running back Garrett Wolfe to miss the remainder of the season, the team confirmed Friday.

The Chicago Sun-Times first reported the story.

Wolfe suffered the injury on Nov. 8 versus Arizona, and he was hospitalized for the next few days. Still, the Bears were optimistic Wolfe would be able to return in 2009.

The Bears said Wolfe will be placed on injured reserve.

Practice squad running back Kahlil Bell is a strong candidate to be promoted to the 53-man roster.
